1793 Zollicoffer Letter - Swiss Immigrants Important in American History
This is a letter from Joachim Laurenz Zollicoffer, a member of the Zollicoffer family who were members of the Swiss aritocracy, to 'his true friend and brother' in Pennsylvania. In this letter in Swiss Standard German, Joachim mentions Charles Mackinon, Major Zollicoffer and the towns of Thurgau (location of Altenklingen Castle, the ancestral home), St Gallen (also in Switzerland), and Rotterdam.
The first member of the Zollicoffer family in America was Baron Jacob Christopher Zollicoffer who settled in New Bern Colony of Carolina (NC) in 1717. His son, Capt. George Bancroft Zollicoffer, III, was a patriot who fought in the Revolutionary War.
This is a nicely written 4 page letter in beautiful handwriting that is in great shape.
