RARE - 1811 The American Spelling Book by Noah Webster


The American Spelling Book, Containing the Rudiments of the English Language, for the Use of Schools in The United States by Noah Webster Esq.  Complete with 168 pages.

It is in good shape with the name of the young owner on the inside of the front cover from 1818 and is the "West Version" of the book. Webster had several times offered the copyright for the book to distributers and booksellers in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and other states. It does not have the name of Alexander Anderson printed as one of the authors.

This RARE little book was printed by E G House at No 5 Court Street Boston for John West and Co. proprietors of the copy right. Sold wholesale and retail, at their bookstore, no. 75, Cornhill--also by David West, Eben. Larkin, and Thomas & Andrews in Boston; also by Thomas & Whipple, and Wm. Sawyer & Co. Newburyport, Charles Pierce [i.e., Peirce] and Charles Tappan, Portsmouth, and other booksellers in the United States. 1809. E.G. House, printer, no. 5, Court-Street.
