1824 Tales of the Genii - Printed in London - with Signatures
A beautiful little edition of Tales of the Genii Translated from the Persian by Sir Charles Morell (James Kenneth Ridley) and Printed in London. These are stories based on the ancient Arabian Nights stories but are from the mind of James Kenneth Ridley who first wrote them in 1764 as a two volume set. At this time it was written the stories of the Far East were very popular.
It was given to an Elias Hyrles (possibly Welsh surname) by a Miss Eliza Atkins. Found in New Hampshire, this is what I call a 'top of the stack' little book. Measuring only 3" x 5" x 1" deep, it would look great on a small document box, on a set of early shelves as the top book of a tiny stack, or sitting on a tea or candle table ready to be read but the owner of the home.
