This is an orignal 1863 piece of sheet music of 'Mother Kissed Me in My Dream' with words by George Cooper and music by J.R. Thomas, New York. It is written on the front of the song sheet that it is 'founded on an incident of the Battle of Antietam' and it is also recorded that a wounded private of Colonel Benj. L. Higgins' 86th New York Infantry sang this song to cheer his comrades while they were halted in a piece of woods beyond the memorable wheat-field at Gettysburg, on the morning of July 3d, 1863. 

Original and in great shape with little foxing, it is 10.25" x 13.5".
