1893 Werner's Magazine - Elocution and Speech - Pre-Stamped Reply Card

$16.00Price

This is a pre-paid postcard addressed to Arlo Bates of the Sunday Courier newspaper of Boston, Massachusetts from Edgar Bates of Werner's Magazine.
In 1880 Arlo Bates became the editor of the Boston Sunday Courier (1880–1893) and afterward became professor of English at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1900. He wrote several novels, books of poetry, and collected criticisms.
Edgar Werner started his Werner's Magazine in 1879 as Werner's Voice Magazine when it's subject matter concentrated on stuttering and other forms of speech problems but by 1893 it was influential in the realms of elocution, public speaking, and vocal music. It was at various times the official organ of the National Association of Elocutionists, the Music Teachers' National Association, and other parallel state organisations.
Werner's Magazine was very famous in the late 19th century and this is a rare post card from the magazine's heyday.
Arlo Bates must not have been interested in contributing to the magazine but he did save this postcard as he received it.Offered with FREE DOMESTIC SHIPPING. International buyers please use the shipping feature in your shopping cart and pay through PayPal if you would like next day shipping.
