This is an original edition of the New Haven, CT Columbian Weekly Register from January 16, 1864. In it are articles about the continuation of the Civil War. In a section titled 'The War News' there are several small snippets of news including the arrest of a Confederate spy who was pretending to be a journalist. Other articles include an interview with a black soldier of the Illinois 9th, an article about something called a 'contraband school' in Nashville, a patriotic display of 'tableaux vivants' by the young ladies of Middletown CT, and a very interesting on a female Union soldier from Maine found in a POW camp in Richmond. The mutiny of 4th Regiment, Corps d'Afrique at Fort Jackson is also discussed. There are lots of other articles on the war and the local and regional news of the day.
