Tiny 1857 Lithograph Titled 'Wreck of Narvaez and His Companions'
A beautiful little hand-painted lithograph in a vintage frame with a nautical theme. It's title is 'Wreck of Narvaez and His Companions'. It is part of the story of the Spanish exploration of Norht America and their trek to explore the area from Florida to the Sea of Palms in Mexico. It was a spectacular failure and this lithograph shows Narvaez and his companions in a tiny boat trying to make it to Mexico through the Gulf of Mexico. They ended up in what is now Texas with Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca, one of his companions, producing earliest written history of Texas by one of the first Europeans to set foot upon its soil. It is 6.5" x 9.5".
